![]() Otherwise narration this book doesn't have anything that before appeared in King's works. Summarizing: Later has many problems but it can be interesting if you like King's style and you aren't bored with them. I know it's King's style but we meet antagonist in the half of book! But I can't forgive that this story is so dragged out. Plot is horrible naive but, you know, it's entertainment story so I can forgive this. King still can write interesting and in new way - action in kid perspective is something I've never thought about. I love narrator style in this book - maybe it's a little infantile but I don't matter. I don't even want to talk about rest of characters because they're only for plot. But when Tia found her drugs (cocaine?), Liz suddenly begun bad person. At the beggining of the story she is like angel - there is nothing bad with her. Liz has potential but I think King wrongly balanced her. Tia has problem with alcohol (typical them in King's works) and she works a lot but her role is limited to be Jamie mother. He has the best written past and narrator style help with understand him. King spent a lot of time on dialogues between characters so I was hoping these characters are well written and interesting but I must admit that I am disappointed. Later definitely isn't scary horror but a novel of manners with paranormal thread. Not as much world building or random tangents that I love from King, but don't feel this novel would have necessarily benefited from being any longer either. I know people aren't overly keen on her, but potential there for a cross over with Holly Gibney in future. Quite like the idea of the kid setting up a detective agency when he is older as suggested by Liz. For me that was the true horror story in this. Not quite IT orgy level of messed up, but totally unnecessary. The twist at the ending was ridiculous though, had no fucking idea why he included it. The professor was my favourite character, I'm a sucker for genteel elderly father figures, i.e Jud Crandall. Had no idea it was even out, I went to the supermarket and saw it on sale so I went for it as when I see King I can't help but buy it.įelt he could've done more with the setting, New York felt very sanitised, with the even the NYPD coming off as boring. I was up until 3am finishing it last night.
